Service Dog In Training Velcro Patches (2)

Public access training is the stage where a patch earns its keep. A dog that is still learning will break a stay, sniff a shelf or greet a stranger, and an "In Training" marking reframes all of that instantly — people read a working dog making mistakes rather than a pet somewhere it should not be, and they tend to give you the room to correct it.

Each set contains two patches at 1.5 by 4 inches with Velcro backing, cut to drop straight onto the mounting panels of our own harness, and they can be sewn to any fabric if you prefer them permanent. One point worth knowing before you train in public: the ADA covers fully trained service dogs, not dogs in training. Many states extend access rights to handlers and trainers of service dogs in training, but the rules vary state to state, so check your own state law rather than assuming the patch carries access with it.

Our “Service Dog in Training” patches are some of our best sellers, and it’s no secret why. They include a Velcro back and can also be sewn to any fabric. We recommend you pair it with our Montana Supply Company Harness, but they are versatile enough to be used anywhere.

Naturally, when a service dog is in training they need to be taken to several public locations so they can get a feel for what their duties will be. If your dog is currently in training, it’s even more important that he/she not be disturbed or distracted.

All orders are shipped USPS First Class Mail within the United States and Puerto Rico. International shipping is not available.

Standard shipping is free. Overnight and priority mail shipping are not offered at this time. Once an order is marked shipped please allow 2-3 days for a post office scan.

Do service dogs in training have public access rights?

Not under the ADA, which covers fully trained service dogs. A number of states grant access to service dogs in training and the people training them, but the scope differs — some cover only professional trainers. Check your state statute before relying on it; the patch itself grants nothing.

What size are the patches, and what do they fit?

Each patch measures 1.5 by 4 inches on a Velcro back, matching the mounting panels of our own harness. They can also be sewn to any fabric — a vest, a jacket or a working pack.

When should I swap the "In Training" patch out?

When the dog reliably performs its trained task and behaves in public — that is the point at which the ADA definition applies and the plain "Service Dog" patch is the accurate one. Because the patches are Velcro-backed you can change them over in seconds rather than buying new gear.
